March 12, 2020-- Dear Parents, Caregivers, Faculty and Staff, In response to the latest CDC media briefing on the Coronavirus and the potential impact at the community level, we want to assure you that we are staying updated on the status in Utah and within our own community. First and foremost, we are following the guidance of the Tooele County Health Department and information being conveyed from the State of Utah. The Tooele County Health Department is actively monitoring the ongoing outbreak of the coronavirus that began in China and subsequently spread to several other countries. The TCHD is coordinating closely with public health partners and medical care providers. Though the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers COVID-10 to be a serious public health concern based on current information, the immediate health risk to the general public is low. In accordance with state and federal law, The Utah State Board of Education is required to annually publish district and school accountability data in the form of school report cards. The USBE makes annual accountability determinations for schools and districts based on student outcomes and growth. Utah’s School Report Card is just one piece of information that communicates how well a school is performing across a range of multiple indicators of student performance. This information is used to accurately identify schools in need of support and improvement, and ultimately provide information about the educational practices. However, it is important to note that not all grades and subjects are included because not all grade levels and courses have statewide end-of-year assessments; kindergarten, first-grade, second-grade, social studies, world languages, health, physical education, and the arts are examples. Tooele County School District offers Dual Language Immersion programs in six languages: Spanish, Portuguese, German, French, Chinese, and Russian. Tooele County School District is committed to being open and transparent concerning District finances. For the 2017-2018 school year, the District had General Fund expenditures of $105.538 million which were a 12% increase from expenditures in the 2016-2017 school year. Revenues increased by 10% from the prior year in the 2017-2018 school year due to the large growth of student numbers. For the 2017-2018 school year, revenues received consisted of roughly 18.04% from local property taxes, 1.24% from other local sources, 4.81% from federal appropriations, and 75.91% from state income taxes. The 2019 Teacher of the Year is Holly Williams, a math teacher at Grantsville High School.
