The majority of patrons who responded showed they preferred school to resume with some additional safety requirements and to have students in class as much as possible.
For students and parents, if school could not resume as normal, the majority, (75%), chose to have a multiple day or weekly rotation. Whereas, the minority, (25%), preferred some type of distance learning. For teachers, if school could not resume as normal 74% chose to have a multiple day or weekly rotation and only 26% preferred some type of distance learning.
When parents were asked in the event the state and local directives would not allow full-time or regular school days, 78% stated they would rather have at least part-time at school and part-time at home as opposed to the 14% who preferred to be full-time at home, and the 5% that would enroll in an online school program.
For the Utah High School Activities Association athletics and activities, the majority of parents and students noted that they plan on participating if allowed and if appropriate safety guidelines are being followed.
If schools are able to fully re-open, 77% of parents said they would send their students to school with little reservation or with reasonable safety practices put in place. There were 12% of the respondents who stated they would only send their students back to school if there were additional safety practices put in place, such as frequent hand-washing, use of hand sanitizer, appropriate social distancing, thoroughly cleaned buildings, students and staff are screened as they enter the building, staff are adequately trained on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance to reduce the likelihood of COVID-19 transmission, students do not share any belongings, a limited amount of visitors and volunteers to the school, restrictions on activities involving contact, and lastly, students and staff are required to wear masks throughout the school day.
